The Sea Cow has been plying its trade for nearly a decade; it was part of the vanguard of modern fish and chip shops, but the menu doesn't seem to have developed since then and lacks the excitement of newer street food. In addition to the standard battered cod/haddock/plaice/coley and chips, dishes include crab cakes, sea bass, gambas al pil pil, calamares, grilled sardines and minted mushy peas. The commitment to sustainable sourcing is admirable, and the fish is well cooked with pleasingly crispy batter. We think the chips aren't as tasty as traditional fried-in-dripping ones, though some people will prefer them this way. The interior aims for bare-wood beach-hut chic, with work by local artists on the walls, but the back of the restaurant can be a bit dark and gloomy. Bonuses include the fact that it's licensed, and has an astonishingly good-value 'kids eat free till 4pm' deal at the weekend.
